A Spanish designer launches CH3TRIS, the "Wordle of chess", this Monday, International Chess Day.

On Monday, July 20 — International Chess Day — CH3TRIS (ch3tris.com, pronounced "chetris") makes its debut: a daily chess puzzle on a 3×3 board that must be solved in under a minute, challenging players around the world to crack it for free every day. You don't need to know how to play chess: knowing how each piece moves is enough.

CH3TRIS is the work of Ramon Buzon, a Spanish designer and creative from Oviedo with more than 20 years in advertising and extensive experience in the toy industry. Having created several games with international reach, both physical and digital, and taking inspiration from the board game The Royal Study by Dutch designer Stan van Rooijen, Buzon has developed this original and addictive game, packed with challenging puzzles available on the CH3TRIS website and app.

The name blends Chess, Tetris and the 3 of the board; solving a challenge in the optimal number of moves is, in the game's own jargon, "making a CH3TRIS".

CH3TRIS is free to play, with up to 3 free games per day, and its app also offers a premium version for €3 that unlocks unlimited games forever.

In addition, the daily challenge, "Daily CH3TRIS", can be embedded for free on any website or digital outlet as a daily pastime, in the style of other daily games like Wordle, which outlets such as The New York Times have turned into a viral phenomenon.
